Guerrero Negro

What began as a small mining settlement called Salina Vizcayno in 1954 became the city of Guerrero Negro in 1957. Named after the lagoon the city is next to, Guerrero Negro is the Spanish version of Black Warrior which was a ship that sank on the sandbars near the mouth of the Laguna de Términos in December 1858.
