El Marmol

El Marmol is the name given to an area near Cataviña where Travertine (calcite) has been quarried intermittently for nearly a century. Several miles Northeast of El Marmol, in the Arroyo del Vulcan, geothermal springs and seeps are present. Here early processes of travertine deposition can be observed on some of the hillsides and in the arroyo.
